The Mocha Monkey nearly falls off a cliff

Late Friday, the Mocha Monkey nearly fell off a cliff along California Highway 1 between San Francisco and Santa Cruz.

Apparently trying to get a closer look at the Pacific Ocean, he got too close to the edge of the rocks and slipped. After he called out that he was in trouble, I immediately pulled him to safety.

Although Mocha Monkey was a little shaken, he decided to continue with me on our journey to San Francisco.

Check back often for more adventures of the Mocha Monkey.

It’s going to be a Rice-A-Roni kind of week

I'm flying to San Francisco to photograph Alcatraz and other historic sites for a photo book of America's greatest destinations.

I don't know that I'll actually have any Rice-A-Roni with the amazing international food choices available there.

Inspirational advice for job seekers and college grads

Click the book to order at a discounted price

Here's an inspiring excerpt I read from God Never Blinks: 50 Lessons for Life's Little Detours by Regina Brett.

Graduates: Go after your own grail with gusto

The parents are starting to panic.

As college seniors prepare to graduate, their loved ones call and write me for advice: My daughter, my son, is graduating from college and there are no jobs. They spent all that time and money to prepare for a career that might not exist. What can I say or do to give them hope?

Before you start making room in your basement for them to move in, give them the greatest graduation gift there is: believe in them.

Hope for the next generation isn't found in the want ads. You make your own hope.

Grandma’s Hands – a beautiful poem

Grandma's Hands - Photo by Pamela McFarland Walsh
Grandma's Hands - Photo by Pamela McFarland Walsh

My sister shared this poem she received in an e-mail. It touched me enough to want to share it with you. This story was written by Melinda Clements and is at: http://bit.ly/ww1iel

Grandma, some ninety plus years, sat feebly on the patio bench. She didn't move, just sat with her head down staring at her hands.

When I sat down beside her she didn't acknowledge my presence and the longer I sat I wondered if she was OK.

Finally, not really wanting to disturb her but wanting to check on her at the same time, I asked her if she was OK. She raised her head and looked at me and smiled. ‘Yes, I'm fine, thank you for asking,' she said in a clear voice strong.

‘I didn't mean to disturb you, grandma, but you were just sitting here staring at your hands and I wanted to make sure you were OK,' I explained to her.  …

Ladies: this independent film will bring a SMILE to your face

“Babies” is a documentary that follows four babies in four different countries for a full year. If you're a mom, want to be a mom or just “Mr. Mom,” you should see this flick. I treated my wife and mother-in-law to this on Mother's Day and we all thoroughly enjoyed it (and I'm a guy! Please, don't take away my “Man Card.”)

Here's a review that does a nice job summing up this sweet, touching movie: http://tinyurl.com/3ae9hah

Save thousands on your next car using free web sites – I did!

Way back in the “early days” of e-commerce (1998) I got an amazing deal on a new Chevy Venture (seen here). I used Edmunds.com to “build” the van of my dreams and get several amazing offers from area dealerships within a few hours of posting my request.

I still drive that van today!

When it’s time to sell “old faithful,” I will probably sell it on Craig’s List for FREE.

Revolutionary breakthrough technique makes everyone look great in photos! Endorsed by famous celebrities

"Opaque Portrait" of the Wicked Witch of the West after being doused by a glass of water

After years of intensive research and monkeying around, a new, breakthrough photographic technique has been developed to help EVERYONE look great – no matter what their appearance. Dubbed Opaque Portraits, these photographs are created in a specially designed studio with patented opaque lighting so that nothing is visible in the photo. “No one will ever have to worry about others judging their appearance ever again,” states photo artist Mark Madere of SpectraLight Photography.

“We've been asked by world renowned celebrities to create Opaque Portraits for them,” said Madere. Their first client was a California Governor and famous movie star who flew all the way to SpectraLight’s North Ridgeville studio for his session. When he saw his Opaque Portrait, the Governor exclaimed, “I’ve never looked so good! You can’t see anything in this picture. I'll be baaack!” …
