Restoration of a faded photograph of James Rondinella – a Mayfield Heights “Hometown Hero”

The photo, above, is of an old, faded photo of WWII veteran, James Rondinella, that we restored and colorized for the City of Mayfield Heights Hometown Hero program. According to my client, theirs was the best-looking banner in the city!

Below are photos of the finished banner – before it was hung and then as it was displayed in downtown Mayfield Heights, Ohio.

Every old photograph tells a story—but time is rarely kind to those memories.

Many people are surprised to learn that a cherished photo, no matter how meaningful it is, often doesn’t contain enough detail or quality to be enlarged into a beautiful banner or large print. When an image is stretched beyond its limits, faces blur, details disappear, and the magic of the moment can be lost.

For more than 40 years, I’ve had the privilege of restoring photographs that families thought were beyond saving—creases, cracks, fading, stains, and decades of wear included. Each restoration is more than a technical process; it’s a careful effort to bring a moment back to life, so it can be seen and shared again with the clarity it deserves.

When I restore an old photograph, I don’t just repair damage. I rebuild detail, enhance clarity, and create a high-resolution digital image that is ready for professional printing. The result is a file that printers can confidently use for large banners, posters, and displays—often far exceeding what people thought was possible from the original photo.
