FAQs

Q: What is the “Doomsday Prediction” regarding the total loss of my digital photos?

A: The “Doomsday Prediction” is based on an interview with Vint Cerf, widely credited as one of the “co-founders of the Internet” and a Google vice-president, who is worried that all the images and documents we have been saving on our computers will eventually be lost – perhaps sooner than anyone thought! Q: Do you restore faded, cracked and damaged photos?

A: Yes, we do a lot of photo restoration work! Check out our FAQ page dedicated to that service: www.SpectraLight.com/photo-restoration-faqs

Q: Can I get a disc of my portraits in case I damage or lose the prints?

A: People typically lose or scratch CDs or DVDs or improperly store them so they become unreadable and prints can no longer be made from them.

Because we value our clients and the memories we create for them – we archive every portrait session on backup hard drives and in the “cloud” so that additional prints can be ordered at anytime.

Q: Can I get digital images to share on social media or send in emails to my family?

A: We offer digital files for every image purchased. They are sized for display on social media sites. We include our digital watermark or logo on these images so your family will know how to reach us if they would like to purchase prints for themselves.

Q: Why do you charge so much for your prints when I can get them printed cheaper somewhere else?

A: We understand that you can have prints made for less at a retail box store or an online service. However, there is so much more to creating fine portraiture than the print cost.

We put a lot of effort into every image that we create. While it may seem that all it takes is a “couple quick directions” regarding how you are posed; what you’re not seeing is the years of learning how to make those posing suggestions – and in a way to help you feel at ease in front of the camera leading to natural, pleasant expressions.

There is also years of training we have invested in mastering how to properly light your face and body so that you look your very best.

Also, the time that we put into removing stray hairs and facial imperfections (among other corrections) is typically two-to-three times longer than the actual portrait session! (By-the-way, these corrections are not provided by the “cheap” photographers that are masquerading as professional photographers.)

There are many other aspects in running a business that must be factored into the cost of your prints. Some expenses include:

  • Attending professional photography workshops to keep up with the latest trends in photography
  • Photography and studio lighting equipment purchases and repairs
  • Insurance for photography equipment, vehicle, studio and business liability
  • Cost to comply with all local, state and federal regulations
  • Cost of phone and Internet service, electric, gas, water and sewer to maintain the studio
  • Cost of printed, promotional materials such as business cards and brochures
  • Cost of advertising and website development and maintenance
  • Cost of studio sample albums, prints and frames
  • Donations of products and services to fundraising events of several non-profit groups in Northeast Ohio
  • Staff paychecks, health and life insurance
  • Many other business expenses that are too numerous (and boring) to list here

Finally, while you can get prints made for less, elsewhere; our clients select us for the quality of our service and workmanship. Retail box store prints are not made to the same high standards of our professional lab. Their color, contrast and exposure will never come close to what our lab produces. Also, the photographic paper our lab uses is guaranteed to resist fading and discoloration for years longer than box stores' cheaper prints under comparable humidity, temperature and environmental conditions.

We offer exceptional value for the heirloom photographs that we create for our clients which has been validated repeatedly as they return again-and-again for their portrait needs since 1980.

We would be pleased to welcome you as both a client AND a friend to share and capture those treasured moments in your family’s lives.
